Configure remote X11 display on Linux

1. To configure for X11 forwarding:

  • yum install -y xorg-x11-xauth
  • yum install -y xorg-x11-fonts-*
  • yum install -y xorg-x11-utils
  • Enter “X11Forwarding yes” in the file /etc/ssh/sshd_config
  • Run “service sshd restart”
  • Install Xming on your laptop
  • Enable “X11 forwarding” and X display location “localhost:0 in the putty via SSH > X11”

2. Alternatively, if you want to install Full desktop and vnc support , then install the following packages:

  • yum groupinstall Desktop
  • yum groupinstall Fonts
  • yum remove NetworkManager
  • yum remove PackageKit
  • yum install tigervnc-server
